Elon Musk has suggested that his major companies may align around a long-term plan to deploy solar-powered artificial intelligence satellites far from Earth. The idea surfaced during a recent discussion with investor Nikhil Kamath, where Musk pointed to growing overlap among SpaceX, Tesla and xAI.
He said the future of high-capacity AI systems likely depends on satellites that operate beyond Earth’s energy limits. According to Musk, such platforms would require direct solar power in deep space to capture meaningful amounts of the Sun’s energy. He described this direction as a natural combination of Tesla’s solar and battery expertise, SpaceX’s launch and spacecraft capabilities, and xAI’s development of advanced AI models.
Musk said the three companies are increasingly moving toward a shared mission. He also praised the engineering teams across his organizations, saying each group continues to deliver strong results while the broader convergence becomes more visible.
Shortly after the interview, Musk hinted on X that the concept could ultimately take shape under a banner he has called “Galaxy Mind.” He has framed the idea as a system that would place solar-powered AI infrastructure across deep-space environments, integrating contributions from all three companies.
Musk has linked the project to a wider goal of preserving and distributing human knowledge. Last month he used X to encourage job seekers to help build what he compared to a modern Library of Alexandria. He said the initiative would send copies of essential information across space, including to other planets and moons, as a safeguard against potential civilizational risks.
Online researchers have identified trademark filings for both “Galaxy Mind” and “Galactica.” Records indicate that Galactica includes an official logo, suggesting it may serve as the formal corporate structure even as Galaxy Mind remains the public reference.
The concept fits Musk’s pattern of drawing connections across his companies. Tesla has expanded solar and storage systems through its energy division. SpaceX has reshaped the satellite sector with Starlink. xAI is developing large language models that Musk says could approach artificial general intelligence, with Grok 5 receiving a rising probability in his latest assessment.
